Former Journey frontman Steve Perry made his return to music after a lengthy break. Now Antimusic reports the singer has made legal moves to block unreleased music. The tracks date back from the 1990s and Perry wants them to saty in the vaults.
Perry has reportedly lodged a lawsuit looking for an injunction preventing the release of music from a 1991. That was a collaboration with a musician known as Phil Brown. Perry is looking for unspecified damages.
According to The Blast via Antimusic, court documents have been obtained and the suit reportedly asserts that Brown’s manager posted on social media. That was to promote the release of a record that would comprise of unreleased “demo” songs that were recorded on an 8-track tape recorder.
The Blast reports that the lawsuit alleges that the defendant, “deceptively associating Perry with Brown and his band, falsely implying that Plaintiff is a member of Brown’s band, and threatening to release certain old vocal performances of Perry as part of Brown’s band’s release, even though Perry owns all intellectual property rights in said vocal performances, Brown abandoned any claim to those performances in 2002, and Perry has repeatedly demanded that Brown not release those works.”
